How to Polarise Blues

This step by step tutorial will show you how to get that polarised blue sky look without the need for a polarising filter. This trick can also be used to emphasise blue water such as seascapes.

NOTE This article is accurate as of Adobe Lightroom Classic CC 7.3.

  • Step 1

    polarise bluesIn Lightroom, import the image you would like to work on and navigate to the Develop tab at the top.

  • Step 2

    lightroom hslIn the far right pane, look for HSL/Color and click on HSL to expand the controls.

  • Step 3

    lightroom luminanceFrom here, select Luminance and slide the Blue control towards the left to intensify. If your blues change to a shade of turquoise, select the Hue tab and adjust the Blue slider.
