Here at PhotoArk we tend not to upgrade our computer equipment very often and any upgrades tend to be out of necessity and not simply taking advantage of the latest technology. Our oldest MacBook Pro has been with us ten years and recently replaced with one of the new line of M3 MacBooks.
Our ten year old workhorse still looks brand new due to it being stored in a a well padded case when not in use. Finding a suitable case for the new arrival was an essential part of the upgrade as we have every confidence that it will last a decade or so if treated respectfully. A search around the internet eventually brought us to Lithuanian based artisans Crazy Horse Craft.
Along with laptop, iPad and phone cases, Crazy Horse Craft hand manufacture high quality items such as wallets, passport holders and belts, some of which can be personalised. Our attention was immediately drawn to their laptop cases due to the beautiful simplistic design, choice of colours and use of high quality materials. Equally important was that each item is hand made and not mass produced. Naturally this comes at a price but we are firm believers in the saying that ‘you get what you pay for’.
The case arrived just three working days after placing the order - much quicker than expected. Upon opening the bag we were greeted with the wonderful smell of leather. Much attention was given to presentation, making the whole unpacking experience a delight. The case was protected inside a linen-like travel bag, adding an additional layer of protection while in transit. This was secured around the case with twine to which was attached a signed card by the craftsman, a certification regarding authenticity of the Tuscan vegetable tanned leather used, as well as a small information card explaining a little about the manufacturing processes. All added up to make a very interesting package. Also included was a little ‘Thank You’ envelope containing two very nice leather key fobs, both of which have found homes on our car keys!
The case itself is beautiful. Of the several colour options available, we chose the ‘classic’ brown coloured leather which has the stylish Crazy Horse Craft logo embossed onto it. The stitching and quality of leather is second to none. The interior is lined with 100% merino fibre wool felt that is beautifully soft, ensuring good protection of our MacBook. A flap made from the same material secures to the case by means of two sturdy brass press studs. Our MacBook fits snugly in all dimensions meaning there is no space for it to slide around within. There are no pockets for storing peripherals, but this leans well into a beautiful minimalist design that is neither modern or retro, but truly timeless which looks and feels like it will last for decades.
Anyone searching for a laptop case that looks and feels like a cut above many of the generic offerings should take a peep at the Crazy Horse range. We are certainly glad we did.
